There are many causes of pigmentation: environmental damage, blemishes, pregnancy or any number of other skin processes. A common pigmentation concern is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) which is a common skin response after any inflammatory process in the skin, but which is often associated with blemishes. This response triggers the skin cells that cause the skin to produce more pigment. This increased pigment naturally fades over time, however, the process can be aided and accelerated with the use of targeted treatments.
