It’s an age-old debate: “
Do I need an eye product?”.
Honestly, this divisive question might be debated until the end of time.
But here’s the thing, I’m not here to sway you one way or the other.
Personally, I think eye products are more of a ‘nice-to-have’ rather than a ‘must-have’.
But if like me, you’re prone to dryness, crepiness under the eyes or you’re starting to see the early signs of ageing around your eye contour area, a targeted eye product can serve as useful.
Particularly if we’re talking about a trailblazing new eye retinal that’s said to have some serious benefits when it comes to dehydration, fines lines, loss of firmness and wrinkles.
I know what you’re thinking, “An eye retinal? Don’t be silly, I don’t want to put any form of vitamin A around my eyes.”
I get it and neither did I, until now.
Because the very clever folks at Medik8 have created a retinal specifically designed for the gentle eye area.
One that also promises to smooth and tighten. Yep, that got me listening too.
So, if you’re thinking about dipping your toes into the world of eye care, then I would definitely start here.

Do I Need an Eye Cream or Product?
While we know standalone eye products aren’t everyone’s thing, or not everyone ‘needs’ them, here’s some reasons why they can be a good addition to your eye care and skincare routine.
Firstly, the skin under our eyes is thinner than the rest of our face. This makes our eye contour area more delicate and fragile.
Thinner and fragile skin around the eyes means barrier protection is not as strong as the rest of our face (that's made of more fat and muscle tissue) so it can be more negatively affected by things like UV damage and also more prone to dryness.
This can lead to unwanted things like accelerated signs of ageing (i.e. fine lines appearing earlier than we’d like).
Daniel Isaacs, Research Director for Medik8 Skincare says, “Thin, delicate skin tends to be more reactive.”
“Eye skin is also drier than facial skin. Unlike the skin on the forehead, chin, nose and cheeks, there are virtually no oil glands surrounding the eye area, making it much more prone to dryness and formation of wrinkles.
Wrinkles are often deepest in the areas where oil glands are less concentrated, which is why crow's feet are a typical first sign of ageing.”

Daniel goes further to explain why you no longer have to be afraid of applying a vitamin A product around your eyes (thanks to the new Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye).
“Even if the skin is not sensitive anywhere else, it's common for the eye area to become irritated when exposed to certain products or ingredients. This tends to be why people are more worried about using vitamin A around the eyes.
The skin around the eyes is under constant stress, due to facial expressions, squinting and blinking.
Ironically, this leads to the eye area being more susceptible to wrinkles, making it the perfect place to apply vitamin A, even if you need to be more cautious.”
Best Products for Under Eye Wrinkles.
Does the eye area or under eyes need specific care? And what are the best products for wrinkles and dryness?
Daniel says the eye area does indeed need specific care.
That’s why Medik8 has crafted an innovative retinal line that’s optimised for use around the eye area.
Meaning, it’s gentle, yet still effective.
A world-first clinical strength retinal for under eyes, this Medik8 eye treatment is designed for the delicate under-eye area to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and improve the look of smoothness, plumpness and firmness.

My Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye Review.

I’ve only been trialling the Medik8 crystal retinal 3 for about two weeks (and it’s going to take a little longer than this to truly see visible results), so I can't speak to long-term results and performance just yet, but here’s what I like about it so far...
Firstly, it really is non-irritating.
I chose the 0.003% strength to road-test which was brave of me seeing as I’ve been experiencing some under-eye irritation as of late.
So this was really going to put that claim to the test.
But to my pleasant surprise, I woke up without the crepiness and irritation I’ve recently been experiencing.
It’s also very lightweight and fast-absorbing and I didn’t detect any scent.
The promise of plumping as well as the smoothing of early signs of ageing has me excited to use a preventive product like this consistently over time.
I’m particularly going to keep a close eye on whether the crepey skin under my eyes does smooth out.
Final Verdict…
I just know anything Medik8 formulates is going to be good so I was more than happy to try this eye retinal.
Knowing all the info above about this world-first technology, I’m excited for the long-term benefits.
And when it comes to any sort of preventative product, it’s always a worthy ‘add to cart’ from me.
