Clinique’s Latest Launch Is Proof You Should Never Underestimate a Classic

Okay, it’s time to own up. Put your hand up if you’ve been sleeping on Clinique.
Good news: the first step to fixing your wrong is admitting to it. And ignoring the lush skincare coming from Clinique is definitely wrong.
Clinique has been around for decades. It’s a trusty favourite that has graced makeup and skincare routines of generations. Who doesn’t have a Black Honey (or a few of them) lying around in various handbags? It can be easy to take something that has always been great for granted.
But, fellow skincare enthusiasts, this is when we stop.
Because Clinique recently came out with a new inclusion in their classic Dramatically Different range: the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ SPF 50.
Before we get into the newbie...
What is Clinique's Dramatically Different range?
A skincare range, in gorgeous butter yellow packaging (yes, they were doing it before the colour started trending!), that moisturises and boosts your barrier’s resiliency.
Key ingredients that achieve this magic: cucumber, barley and sunflower seeds.
Sound gentle and lush, as if your skin is taking a stroll through a springtime field? Well, that’s exactly what it feels like upon application.
I have very dry and sensitive skin. I’m also very brave. So, happy to put my hand up and trial any moisturiser that purports to be extra nourishing! Adore Beauty staff and BIQ readers: you’re welcome.
Let’s get into my thoughts.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturisers
The Dramatically Different range has 3 moisturisers:
- Best for very dry to dry combination skin: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ 200ml
- Best for all skin types: Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly 125ml
- Best for oil to oily combination skin: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel Pump 125ml
I tried all 3 and can confirm that if you have very dry skin: opt in for the Moisturizing Lotion+. It has served as my nightly moisturiser for over a week now, and my skin is feeling nourished, not sticky and not tight. Exactly the simple and effective skincare I prioritise.
For my concerns, the other two moisturisers weren’t quite right.
But I would never leave you hanging like that. So, I put my researcher hat on and toddled off to my mother, who has combination skin.
She tried each of the moisturisers blind and she loved the Moisturising Gel, saying it feels like velvet on her skin.
The Hydrating Jelly very much feels like the all-rounder, formulated to suit all skin types. I used the Hydrating Jelly a couple of nights in a row, and liked it but found myself having to use a couple of layers to achieve the deep moisture my skin craves.
All three moisturiser options come out thick, soft, ultra nourishing and sink into the skin seamlessly. The choice is in what’s right for you.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing BB Gel
Okay, let’s talk about this. Because I’m no scientist, so I’m going to put it down to magic. The only way to describe this BB gel is to take you on the journey:
I pop a little bit on my hand, it comes out grey (I gasp, obvi). I start to massage it into my hand and first the colour turns a very deep tan (I gasp again). The more I massage, the more nourished my skin begins to feel, the lighter the colour becomes, until finally the cream fades into my skin giving it a unified tone.
A little goes a long way with this small magician if you want to unify your tone without drying out your skin.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + SPF 50
Despite waxing lyrical about all the nourishment my skin needs, I don’t like putting too much on it. It’s a delicate balance: I need to feel hydrated but not heavy. And during the day, I need to be protected from that pesky sun.
So, a nourishing SPF that acts as both sun protection and moisturiser is a non-negotiable for me. This does exactly what I need it to, including being a smooth base for my minimal makeup.
The verdict:
The Dramatically Different skincare range from Clinique is the ultimate quiet achiever. There’s a perfect moisturiser for all skin types, a BB gel to unify tone, and an SPF that perfectly compliments your everyday makeup look.
