My
wedding is around the corner and a common question I’ve been asked is: “what’s your skincare routine?”. Being a beauty content creator for about a decade, everyone expects an elaborate regime with 10 steps minimum. But the reality is so far from it.
As someone with sensitive,
acne prone skin, I have to be mindful about every product I use. While a lot of my routines have changed in the lead up to my wedding, my skincare routine and goals have remained constant (because why change sometime that’s not broken, right?).
My top priorities remain to:1. Calm breakouts2.
Reduce pigmentation3.
Hydrate my skinWith that, let me introduce you to some of my non-negotiable skincare products!

BIODERMA Sensibio AR+ SOS Spray

Toward the end of last year, BIODERMA released what I can only describe as my ultimate holy-grail product! I have been working out a lot more in the lead up to my wedding, and the BIODERMA Sensibio AR+ SOS Spray is the best product to reset my skin after working out. I love spritzing this on my face, back and chest for instant relief and soothing. It helps calm irritation and redness, and also makes for a great first step in my daily skincare routine.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I first tried this exfoliant in 2016 and we were not compatible at all back then. Fast forward 10 years later, who knew the Dermalogica Daily Exfoliant would become a non-negotiable in my skincare routine?
This is a wonderful powder to paste exfoliant (just mix with water!) which helps lift dead skin cells without being abrasive. The Salicylic Acid, Phytic Acid and Licorice are hero ingredients to help balance uneven skin tone and pigmentation.
Skinstitut Retinol Serum

I know retinols can be very scary, especially when trying to find the right one to introduce into your routine while preparing for a huge event. The Skinstitut Retinol Serum is easily one of the best retinols I have tried. It’s gentle (yes, retinols can be gentle!) and great for sensitive skin. I would recommend gradually building tolerance by applying 2-3 times a week at first.
If you’re looking for a fast absorbing, no-fuss product, which will help smooth out your skin and texture, this retinol is excellent! I’ve been loving this as part of my night routine.
Lancôme Génifique Ultimate Serum

Okay, this one is pricey but hear me out. As the name suggests, this product really is the ultimate serum. The beautiful blend of beta-glucans, pre and probiotics, licorice extract, hyaluronic acid is not only suitable for all skin types but helps deliver unreal hydration and soothing properties.
Since adding this into my routine, I’ve noticed my skin does not feel as dry as it usually would, and my face looks plump! Plus it’s refillable.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

My go-to moisturiser for years, and for very good reason. The Ordinary has simple skincare done so perfectly. This moisturiser deeply nourishes my skin, which helps strengthen my skin barrier but also visibly hydrates my face. For me, it’s been important to ensure my skincare (especially moisturisers) are lightweight and non-greasy, and that’s exactly what this product is.
I believe in this moisturiser so much, to the point where I can apply this with no other serums and/or mists and my skin still feels hydrated hours later.
Pro tip: This works beautifully as a primer under makeup, especially if you’re wearing a fullcoverage foundation.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar DUO+M Unspot Patches

As a bride-to-be, you’re going to need emergency pimple patches in your kit. The Effaclar Duo+M Spot Patches from La Roche Posay are wonderful for creating a protective barrier around breakouts, helping to keep pimples under control.
The entire
Effaclar range is incredible, and these patches are effective to address breakouts urgently. I know my brides- to-be are constantly on the, and these look “barely-there”, perfect to pop on while running errands.
Advice to Future Brides:
Many people go through a rigorous trial and error period to create the “perfect” skincare routine. Truth is, our skin changes a lot overtime, especially when we’re stressed. In my case, I chose to stick with the products I know work for me, all year around. I felt the best way to prepare my skin for my wedding was to continue with the products I know my skin loves.
I also would not recommend frequently switching out your products. You’d be doing both your skin and the products a disservice. Stick to what works for you and skin and give your routine at least 6-8 months of consistency before the big day.
From my experience, the best formula for your skin to look and feel its best is: proper hydration, a balanced diet and a reliable skincare routine.
