Oh, how I envy those people (ahem, men) who can rely on a single
budget product to moisturise their entire face, body
and hands, 365 days of the year. Like, how?!
As you can probably tell, I am far from one of them. You see, as a beauty writer (who
specialises in Korean beauty), my skincare routine is anything but low-maintenance. Keeping my skin healthy year-round requires a carefully curated lineup (I’m talking a minimum of 10 products) that changes with the time of day and, more importantly, the time of year.
That’s because the moment the temperature climbs, my tolerance for heavy creams all but disappears. In the warmer months, my skin craves formulas that feel barely there. I’m talking
super lightweight serums that sink in fast, play nicely with the rest of my routine and actually
do something, without clogging my pores or leaving me shiny or sticky.
Whether I’m juggling excess oil, dehydration or that slightly sensitised, post-summer skin feeling, the right serum genuinely makes all the difference.
After years of trialling more formulas than I can count (across every skin type and concern imaginable), these are the nine K-Beauty lightweight serums that have earned a permanent spot on my bathroom shelf for when the weather heats up.
1. Anua Rice Ceramide Hydrating Barrier Serum, $65

I’ve easily emptied around six bottles of this in the past year because it quite literally saved my skin during my first bout of adult acne (
you can read about it here).
Formulated with rice extract, ceramides and niacinamide, it strikes the perfect balance between lightweight and deeply hydrating, which are two non-negotiables for a summer serum.
At the height of my breakout, it replenished moisture without feeling heavy, helped repair my over-exfoliated skin barrier, and gradually brought back that bouncy, healthy glow.
If you love this, I would also recommend checking out the rest of the
Anua Rice range.
Anua Rice Ceramide Hydrating Barrier Serum customer review:
"This calming serum infused with ceramides has become essential when my skin is irritated. It glides on like silk and instantly reduces that tight, inflamed feeling. After a week of use, I noticed significantly less redness and sensitivity." - AB customer Rosa.
2. Torriden Dive-In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum, $33

Best hydrating Korean skincare?
ICYMI, this Torriden serum has been a consistent top performer in the Korean serum category for years, which is no small feat in such a competitive space.
What makes it stand out is how refreshingly fuss-free it is, while still delivering serious hydration. Lightweight, fast-absorbing and never sticky, it layers beautifully under makeup and holds its own even under the scorching summer sun, keeping skin plump, calm and comfortably hydrated all day.
Torriden Dive-In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum customer review:
"So hydrating but super lightweight. My skin just drinks it up and feels bouncy." - AB customer Kav.
3. INNISFREE Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum, $45

Last summer, I accidentally dozed off on the beach with barely any sun protection and woke up to bright red, angry skin. The horror!!
Thankfully, I had this serum on hand, and after a week of religiously applying it, my skin bounced back to being healthy, hydrated and extra-glowy.
Packed with green tea, encapsulated hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, squalane and panthenol, it’s a total multitasker, calming irritation, reinforcing the moisture barrier, and tackling dullness and dehydration all at once.
INNISFREE Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum review:
"This serum is amazing. My skin feels super hydrated and fresh all day without feeling greasy." - AB customer Tia.
4. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule, $33

This is the product I reach for whenever my skin feels even the slightest bit sensitised after spending a little too much time in the sun. Made with one of my favourite skincare ingredients, high-purity Madagascan centella asiatica, this ampoule is all about calming, strengthening and restoring balance, without weighing skin down.
The watery, fast-absorbing texture sinks in instantly and helps cool red or irritated skin, keeping everything clear, calm and hydrated.
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule customer review:
"Deeply nourishing and perfect for my sensitive skin." AB customer Alia.

5. Mixsoon Bean Essence, $63.90

True to Mixsoon’s minimalist ethos, the cult Bean Essence contains just four ingredients, which is a dream for my hyper-sensitive skin.
Formulated with soybean extract, barley, pomegranate and Korean pear, each component earns its place by balancing oil and moisture, revitalising dull skin, gently exfoliating with natural AHAs and strengthening the skin barrier.
The lightweight, fragrance-free formula feels incredibly breathable on the skin, making it ideal for summer, and is kind enough for all skin types, including acne-prone. And bonus: it works as both a hydrating serum and a gentle exfoliator.
Trust me, it’s truly skin-transforming.
Mixsoon Bean Essence customer review:
"I've been using the Mixsoon Bean Essence, and it's quickly become a staple in my routine. The texture is lightweight and absorbs so well, leaving my skin hydrated without feeling greasy. It's gentle but super effective. my skin looks brighter and feels smoother since I started using it. I also love how calming it is, especially when my skin feels sensitive. It's a simple yet powerful product that delivers noticeable results!" - AB customer Vee.
6. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica First Ampoule, $32

If you’ve tried and loved the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule mentioned above but want a little extra hydration and brightening, this is your new go-to.
Infused with centella asiatica, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C derivatives, it soothes, strengthens and deeply hydrates while helping even out skin tone.
7. Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum, $146

I’ll admit, I used to shy away from Sulwhasoo thanks to the price tag. But a year ago, I finally gave their First Care Activating Serum a try, and wow, let me tell you every cent is completely justified.
Basically, this serum is to be used as the first step in your skincare routine, as it preps the skin so every product you layer afterwards performs better.
This means in summer you can use less of your other products, resulting in a lighter routine that still keeps your skin hydrated and glowing.
In terms of texture, formulation and results, I haven’t found anything else that comes close.
Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum customer review:
"This serum has been amazing for giving my skin that healthy, radiant glow. I use it both morning and night, and it has really improved the overall texture of my skin. My skin feels smoother and more plump. It's not heavy, so it layers well under moisturiser, and it's become a staple for keeping my skin youthful and bright." - AB customer Matilda.
8. Mixsoon Glacier Water Hyaluronic Acid Serum, $41.90

I like to think of this product as a tall, cold glass of water for your skin because it instantly quenches the thirstiest skin without feeling the slightest bit sticky or heavy.
I love how it layers effortlessly under everything — sunscreen, makeup, or even just on its own — leaving skin plump, refreshed and ready to face the heat.
Also, you get a whopping 300ml of product for less than $42! A bargain, if you ask me.
Mixsoon Glacier Water Hyaluronic Acid Serum customer review:
"I love the thickness and quantity you receive but also it genuinely feels hydrating and I've noticed my skin peeling less." - AB Customer.
9. VT Cosmetics PDRN Essence 100, $84

After testing several PDRN products over the years, this one quickly became my standout pick.
Powered by ginseng-derived Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), it helps repair and renew skin at a cellular level, boosting elasticity, calming inflammation and strengthening the barrier.
If your skin feels tired, stressed or sun-weary, this essence will help your skin feel plump, calm and resilient, sometimes as quickly as overnight.
It’s especially soothing for sensitive or over-exfoliated skin, making it an Aussie summer skincare must-have.
