Oh, how I wish I could be one of those skincare girls who can slap on any new product without a second thought. Sure, I’m a beauty writer whose job is to literally test formulas, but that also means walking a very fine line. You see, my skin isn’t just
sensitive. It’s hypersensitive.
I learned this the hard way when I first tried to incorporate a
vitamin C serum into my routine. What I paid for wasn’t the radiant glow promised on the packaging, but angry red bumps scattered across my face and neck.
After a few more failed attempts with “gentle” formulas (each one ending in the same patchy reaction), I came to accept vitamin C and I just weren’t meant to be.
But that was until I turned to
K-beauty products (since they’re known to be gentle, super effective and affordable) and stumbled across one particular product:
Medicube’s Deep Vita C Capsule Cream.
Wait, Who Is Medicube?
If you’re into Korean beauty, you’ve probably seen Medicube pop up on your socials at some point, usually with a futuristic-looking gadget or cream that’s gone viral thanks to A-list celebs (hello, Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner).
But I promise you they’re more than just another TikTok viral sensation.
The Seoul-based brand delivers dermatologist-developed formulas packaged luxuriously but priced surprisingly reasonably. Their focus is on solving real skin issues like pigmentation, acne, sensitivity and collagen loss. They’re also huge on innovation, often taking ingredients we already know and love, then making them less irritating, and more stable and effective.
What Is the Medicube Deep Vita C Capsule Cream?

Open up the packaging and you’ll see this isn’t your typical vitamin C cream. Beneath the luxe golden lid is a jar filled with tiny golden capsules (kind of like pearls) suspended in a clear gel base. Each pearl encapsulates a dose of Sea Buckthorn Extract at an impressive 50% concentration, along with 5% Niacinamide and stabilised vitamin C that bursts as you massage it into your skin. The transparent gel component is infused with Ferulic Acid, and vitamins E, Q and P, providing hydration and glow.

You might be thinking this cream is just an aesthetic gimmick, but trust me when I say there’s real science behind it. You see, vitamin C is notoriously unstable, meaning it oxidises quickly when exposed to air, light or heat (which is why you may have noticed many serums turn brown in the bottle long before you’ve finished them). By sealing vitamin C inside these micro-capsules, Medicube keeps it fresh and potent right up until the moment you apply it, which also reduces the risk of irritation. Pretty cool if you ask me.
But the best part about this design is that it makes it fully customisable. Because the vitamin C is locked inside those tiny golden pearls, you can literally control how much you’re giving your skin each day. Think of the clear gel as your base moisturiser and the capsules as little vitamin boosters you can dial up or down. Feeling a bit sensitive? Use less of the capsule and more gel. Want an extra glowy boost? Increase your capsule amount.

Here’s a general guideline:
Sensitive or reactive skin: Start small and use about 1 capsule to 2 parts gel. Then blend it on the back of your hand before applying.
Normal to dry skin: Go for a 1:1 ratio.
Oily or more resilient skin: If your skin can handle actives well, go for a 2:1 ratio for a stronger glow boost.
My Medicube Deep Vita C Capsule Cream Review.
I’ve been using this cream consistently at night for the past few months, and honestly, my skin has never looked better. Stubborn post-acne spots are fading faster than ever, and there’s a noticeable brightness and glow to my complexion. It’s also the only new product I’ve stuck with during this time, so I can confidently say these changes are thanks to this cream alone.

The texture is lightweight and silky, with zero stickiness or heaviness. As you smooth it on, the capsules melt into the gel and release vitamin C in a slow, steady stream rather than one harsh hit. That’s why it feels so friendly on my sensitive, reactive skin that normally can’t cope with high-strength ascorbic acid. Plus, it’s completely fragrance-free, which is a massive win for me.
I’ve had no issues layering it with my other staple skincare ingredients, like bakuchiol, niacinamide and azelaic acid. In saying this, remember to avoid retinol, copper peptides, benzoyl peroxide, and strong AHAs or BHAs with any vitamin C product. If you’re unsure about what you can and can’t use, I’d recommend checking out
this in-depth video.

But what really sets this cream apart for me is how customisable it is. I can tweak the ratio of capsules to gel depending on how my skin is behaving. During the recent cooler months, I added more gel for extra hydration. On a trip to Hong Kong in their humid summer, I dialled back the gel for a lighter finish. And when hormonal breakouts have left behind dark marks, I doubled down on the capsules for a brightening boost.
It honestly feels like a vitamin C cream that adapts to me, not the other way around. And that, my friends, is a big tick in my books.
Who Would I Recommend It To?
If you’ve ever wanted to try vitamin C but found most formulas too harsh, this is a brilliant entry point. It’s especially good for sensitive or reactive skin, or for anyone dealing with post-acne marks and dullness who wants a brightening boost without compromising their barrier. I also think it’s perfect for people who like flexibility in their skincare, since the customisable formula means you can adjust it day by day depending on what your skin needs.
If your skin already thrives on high-strength vitamin C serums, there is a slight chance this formula might feel too gentle. In this case, I’d suggest pairing it with the matching
Glutathione Glow Serum for a more potent hit.
But for me - and anyone else who’s been burned (literally) by vitamin C before - the cream alone is a total game-changer.
Final Verdict:
You probably already guessed it, but this product gets a huge thumbs up from me. I’ve already restocked with two more tubs and honestly can’t see myself ever swapping it out for another vitamin C cream. It’s effective, gentle, customisable and feels beautiful on the skin, all while being surprisingly affordable.
As I sit here writing this review, I’m genuinely struggling to find a fault, which says a lot coming from someone who’s usually sceptical about skincare claims.
For the first time in my life, I’ve been able to use vitamin C every day without my skin throwing a tantrum, and for that, I’m forever grateful to the Medicube gods.
