The Easiest Way to Apply Fake Eyelashes and the Best Products to Use

False lashes and I have unfortunately never gotten along.
Despite my valiant attempts, the ways I’d go wrong are endless.
Glue would go everywhere, my eyes would start watering, the glue itself would turn blue, I’d have half a lash hanging off, things would start peeling as soon as I left the house…
It was all annoying enough that one day when I was a teenager I decided false lashes weren’t for me and never attempted applying them again.
I proverbially threw in the towel and relied solely on tubing mascara and lash lifts ever since.
Until now.
Cue the excited screeching.
Keep scrolling, dear reader, and I’ll tell you all about the best false lashes that have changed my makeup game for less than $20 (I know, can you believe?).
I’ll also sprinkle in some other sure-fire fool-proof lash techniques I’ve picked up in my research - so by the end of this article you’ve got everything you need to tackle a false lash yourself.
Here's how to apply fake lashes (without having to get extensions).
MODELROCK Press-On Lashes.
First up, let me introduce you to the MODELROCK Ready To Wear 'Plant Fibre' Press-On Lashes - Style #3
MODELROCK is an Australian lash brand that was started in 2012 with a focus on creating both unique and usable styles for make-up artists and consumers alike.
Their lashes are vegan and cruelty free, and these specific press-on lashes come in smaller sections, various volumes and densities, are pre-glued and also come with a plastic travel case.
Now that we’ve got the niceties out of the way - I cannot express to you how much I adore these lashes.
It was pure insta-love.
To make it easy to understand why, here are some dot points:
- These lashes sit underneath your natural lash- so you can blend them into your waterline incredibly easily and you’re also not risking your eyeshadow look.
- I have hooded eyes, so the ability to tailor the shape of the lash with the separate sections meant I got a bespoke look that suited what I was after.
- The learning curve is so incredibly short that it genuinely took me one attempt to learn how to put these on. One attempt.
- They’re pre-glued, so there is genuinely no mess. Iconic move by MODELROCK here.
- How long do false lashes last? They lasted me a whole night out, even in the hot Australian summer as a girl with watery eyes (and when I did remove them prior to jumping in the Uber, they didn’t leave a strip above my eyes because they were underneath the lash!).

These are the perfect lashes for anyone wanting to give lashes a go for the first time- or anyone wanting a quick solution that actually packs a punch and makes a difference in a make up look.
TL;DR: they’re gamechangers, and I’m adding four sets to my cart immediately. And two for my Mum, too. I refuse to not have a stockpile of these moving forward.

When I was Googling how to put on fake eyelashes, one of the most common tips was to start with smaller sections of lashes, or even individual lashes, to start.
Not only does this give you more room for error, it also allows you to play around with the shape and location of the lash to see where best suits your eyes - as a full strip last will often require some negotiation on your lashline to fit your specific eye shape.
And just like clothes, it’s often not one size fits all.

Another hot tip I picked up is to wait a few seconds for the glue to get tacky on the lash before applying as it will reduce the chances of mess and also allow the glue to stick immediately - this is definitely something I wish I knew about ten years ago.
