I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
hair health starts at the scalp. This philosophy also rings true when you are trying to create some
serious volume.
One of the best ways to boost volume is by
exfoliating the scalp, and stimulating your roots. This technique is not lost on
Billie Jean Reed, who is an educator for Christophe Robin, and an expert when it comes to
amping up the volume in her hair.In this routine she shows us how she preps and styles her hair for max volume with products from
Christophe Robin. So,
forget flat hair and say hello to beautiful, bouncy locks.
How do I care for a dry scalp?
An unbalanced scalp, be it oily or dry, can impact the growth, length and strength of your hair. This is because the excess dry skin and oil can block the hair follicle and lead to oily, dehydrated and limp hair.
Just like your face, sometimes your scalp needs a little help staying balanced with a bit of exfoliation and some extra moisture. You can achieve this by incorporating an exfoliating mask or treatment into your weekly routine to remove dead skin and product build up.
As exfoliating masks and treatments can by drying it’s important to also include a hydrating mask, treatment or conditioner in your routine to restore moisture and balance. This combination should leave your hair fresh, bouncy and smooth.
Billie’s bouncy hair routine:
Step 1: Holy grail haircare
Step 1: Holy grail haircare
Billy starts off with what she calls the “holy grail” of haircare, the
. This exfoliating paste can be used once a week to get rid of scalp oil, product and dead skin build up, or as part of
a “no-poo” routine. After wetting your hair, take a small amount into the palm of your hand and emulsify the product before applying it to the scalp. To apply the product, first take it through your centre part and underneath your hair to distribute the product through your roots. Massage it through your roots (and only your roots) for several minutes, then rinse.
Step 2: Rolls Royce of masks
Step 2: Rolls Royce of masks
Billy dubs the next product she uses the “Rolls Royce” of masks. The
works to hydrate and nourish your strands with Prickly Pear Oil. Take a 20c piece sized amount of product and apply it to your lengths and ends for several minutes before rinsing.
Air dry your hair to maintain some of the moisture in your hair, giving it a bit more natural shape and body.
Billie has ditched her straightener in preference of the
. First, she brushes out her hair with a round boar bristle brush. (try the
). Then, working in thirds she takes the tongs and curls each section away from the face.
Billie pulls back the top section of her hair and then pulls out the front strands of her fringe before she ties the rest of the hair back with a ribbon, creating a half up-do.
Finish up your hair and scalp routine with an
smoothie. Just add 2 teaspoons of this vegan hair supplement into your morning smoothie, water or milk for added length, strength and growth.
