If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd call up the fanciest hair salon in town and arrange a standing fortnightly colour appointment so I’d never need to worry about my roots ever again.
I know, first world problem, but whether you’re covering up greys or your natural colour, those days and weeks leading up to your regular salon visits can feel like agony.
The regrowth… man, it kills me every time.
Thankfully, I’ve discovered an awesome root touch up spray that has been specifically designed to cover up regrowth in between colour appointments - R+Co BRIGHT SHADOWS Root Touch-Up Spray - Red
It’s bougie, smells amazing and comes in a variety of hard-to-find shades that aren’t usually available in normal supermarket root touch up sprays.
Keep on scrolling to find out everything you need to know about covering up your roots with what I'd argue is the best root touch up spray of 2020.

The Best Way to Cover Grey Roots Between Colourings.

Getting your hair coloured every three-to-six weeks is expensive and time-consuming. It's also not an option if you're currently living in lockdown.
A root spray is one of the best ways to hide regrowth and cover grey roots between colourings because they’re affordable and super easy to use.
While there's nothing wrong with grey hair or my natural hair colour, using a root spray when my regrowth starts to show helps me feel more confident about wearing my hair out.
Side note, if you're feeling brave, you can watch Hannah's tutorial on dyeing your hair at home in this YouTube video below!

Why R+Co Root Touch Up Spray is the Best Root Touch Up Spray, Ever.

Bougie haircare brand R+Co’s Bright Shadows Root Touch-Up Sprays are coloured sprays you spritz onto your roots to cover up your regrowth. But why is this product the best?
The key to a good root touch up spray is finding a product as close to your hair colour as possible, so it looks natural and not like you just went overkill with the dry shampoo. While brunettes are often well catered for in the root spray department, it’s pretty hard for redheads and blondes to find a really good colour match.
Thankfully, this product comes in a bunch of different shades - I use the red shade on my colour-treated burgundy hair.
The spray itself is packed with good-for-your-hair ingredients, too.
It's boosted with biotin, a type of vitamin B that helps to thicken the hair. It’s also got pearl extract to add shine, mica to add reflective particles and tapioca starch to absorb oil and provide texture, just like a dry shampoo.
And the scent! This product has a fragrance with hints of citrus, fig, cedar and tonka bean. It smells super fancy and delicious, but not overpowering.

My R+Co Bright Shadows Review.

I am deeply obsessed with this root touch up spray.
This is the best root touch up spray for red hair I’ve found. As red is the colour that loses its pigment the fastest, this auburn shade buys me a few extra weeks of glorious red-headed goodness before my regular colour session.
Not only is the red shade a great colour match, but the formula sticks to those roots and will last until you next wash your hair. You don’t have to worry about it fading - I found I didn’t need to reapply it at all.
That said, my hairdresser assured me you don't need to wash the long-lasting spray out before having your colour reapplied at the salon, which is great news because no one has time to wash their hair before they go to the salon. It’s like cleaning your house before the cleaner comes.
As you can see, the spray covered my roots perfectly. Win!

How to Apply Root Touch Up Spray.

My top tip for applying a root touch up spray is, pop a cotton bud, skewer, straw or the end of a sectioning comb over your part line before spraying the product onto your roots.
This will ensure the colour doesn’t get onto your scalp, so the look remains natural.
If you forget, don’t fret! Dip a cotton bud into micellar water and gently run it over your part to wipe away the excess product. Voila!
