We Try the Metal Detox Oil That Promises Soft, Silky & Shiny Hair

Metal detox haircare — heard of it? Me neither. Well, I hadn’t until about a month or so ago.
Turns out our shower water may be to blame for our tired tresses. And it’s worse in some cities, too.

Essentially, hard water is water that’s rich in mineral ions that can strip our hair of its natural oils and moisture. When these metal levels build up, our hair loses its shine, feels dry and can even look green, grey, or flat.
Dullness can also be the result of high porosity hair, that is, hair comprised of large pores that soak up moisture just as easily as it loses it.

I must admit, before I could get my mitts on the metal detox oil, my expectations were pretty high.
With a whopping 500 million views for #metaldetox on TikTok and countless reviews from influencers, hairstylists, and beauty buffs, it's been hailed as a game-changer for haircare routines.
And you know what? I’d have to agree.
I tested the detox oil on both dry and damp hair and found that the latter worked slightly better as it was able to spread evenly throughout my hair without being absorbed too quickly.
The thick, silky texture of the oil feels nourishing without being greasy or weighing my hair down. And let's not forget about the scent — a subtle, musky citrus aroma that adds a little luxury to the routine.
But the real magic happens when it comes to softness.
I literally couldn't stop playing with my hair and even forced my partner to touch it too (to which he responded with a convincing "Mmhm, very nice.").
Because of its thicker consistency, a little goes a long way, and I only needed a couple of pumps to work wonders on my hair. And I could get the perfect amount every time with the bottle's easy-to-use design.

Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a hair-washing addict.
So when it comes to my locks, I need products that help keep my habit of overwashing at bay without leaving my tresses looking like a hot mess.

Not only does it have a lush, silky texture that lathers up quickly and easily, but it also manages to strike the perfect balance between cleansing and hydrating. An ideal mix for oily roots and dry ends havers like me.
Thanks to its specially formulated blend of ingredients, my hair was left feeling super clean, smelling slightly citrusy, and looking noticeably shinier and smoother.
Now, I haven't dyed my hair in a while, but I'm told that this shampoo is also a miracle worker when it comes to maintaining vibrant colour and preventing damage caused by over-processing.
And even though I found it to be a tad harsh and drying during my first few uses, the Metal Detox Mask (which I used next) was quick to come to the rescue and restore my hair’s natural lustre and softness.

I have a love-hate relationship with hair masks.
On the one hand, I love how nourishing they are. But on the other, sometimes I just don’t have the energy to get in and out of the shower to wash them out.
Luckily, the L’Oreal Professionnel Metal Detox Mask only needs a few minutes to work its magic.
And magic, it is.
Its rich and creamy texture was easy to apply and felt luxurious in my hair. It didn’t feel heavy or weigh my hair down and, again, I didn’t need to use too much.
Afterwards, my hair felt like a dream. It went from dull and dry to soft, silky and smooth.
Overall, it's definitely one of the better hair masks I’ve used. It’s also one of the more affordable options in the bond repair haircare category.
4. L'Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Leave-In Cream.
You know a product's good when you get not one, but TWO compliments on your hair after using it.
My colleagues commented how soft, shiny and healthy my locks looked, which pretty much confirms everything the Leave-In Cream promises.
I found I needed three pumps to evenly spread the product through my locks, but its creamy texture felt nourishing and helped make my hair more manageable during styling.
It also kept my pesky flyaways and frizz at bay while protecting my hair from heat damage - we love a multitasker.
Final Verdict...
Well, beauty lovers, there you have it.
Turns out there is such a thing as metal-damaged hair but thankfully L’Oreal Professionnel is all over it.
Did I enjoy the metal detox range? Yes. My hair looks and feels shinier and smoother.
Would I rebuy it? Honestly, probably not. But that’s not for any other reason than I don’t think I’m the perfect match for the detoxifying range.
If I ever go down the scalp bleach route, then definitely. But considering the havoc it wreaked on my hair, I don’t think I’ll be doing so anytime soon…
