Does anyone else still dream of Beyonce's 2018 Coachella hair?
That image of the endless sea of curls will seriously stay with me forever…
Having naturally curly hair, I’ve always been on the lookout for the best hair tool to create a curl as natural as my own.
I also tend to “test run” new hair products and tools on myself before I put them in my hair kit for freelance work.
So believe me when I say… I’ve tried ALL the tools out there for curly hair.
Curling hair with flat irons. Conical wands. Curlers that sucks up your hair then spit out a curl.
But I have never found the right tool that would just enhance and define the natural curl I already have.
Because of this, I usually wear my hair straight or with a slight blow wave look.
Until now...
When I first saw the new
GHD Thin Wand 14mm Hair Curling Wand I immediately thought, this might be what I've been looking for.
But could it be the ultimate hair tool to define my natural curls and finally create Beyonce 2018 Coachella hair vibes?
Keep scrolling for my ghd thin wand review, plus ghd reviews from two other Adore Beauties with different hair types to mine.
What Is the ghd Thin Wand Hair Curler?
GHD Thin Wand 14mm Hair Curling Wand is a lightweight wand designed to easily create defined tight curls, waves and different textures.
The ceramic barrel gives a silky, high shine finish to the hair and it also helps provide smooth styling control and grip.
Some key features of the ghd thin wand include:
14mm thin ceramic barrel.

+38% longer wand, great for short or long hair lengths.
2.7m 360° swivel for flexible styling and handling.
Comes with protective styling glove.

Cool tip to hold while curling hair.
Rubber safety stand - I actually love this feature, it doesn't slide around the bathroom sink area!
How to Use Ghd Curve Thin Wand.
When it comes to using the wand, there are many ways you can create curls and waves.
It will really depend on your natural hair and what type of curl/wave you want to create.
For a tight/coily curl you can take small bundles of hair and tightly wrap it from root to tip around the length of the wand.
If you want to create a softer curl or wave, you can take a bigger bundle of hair and softly wrap it around the wand.
You can watch the ghd thin wand in action in this YouTube video below.
I will usually wash my hair the day before styling to allow it to air dry, so the natural curls can form, therefore less heat is applied to my hair.
Once my hair is dry, I always use a heat protector.
GHD Bodyguard - Heat Protect Spray 120mL is one of my favourites.
I section my hair in quarters, I'll spray each section, then divide those sections again or even just grab each curl that has already formed.
One thing I know many of us struggle with is which way to curl the hair around the wand so it looks the same on both sides.
I find it easiest to hold the wand in my right hand while doing the left side, pointing the tip of the wand to the ground and wrapping the hair away from my face.
Then switch the wand to your left hand and do the same, pointing the wand tip down to the floor and wrapping the hair bundle away from my face.
My ghd Thin Wand Hair Curler Review.

My natural hair type and texture has changed over the years. When I was younger, it was a lot curlier, more of a 3A type loose curl or spiral.
The older I've become, and due to years of straightening, colouring and hormonal changes post-pregnancy, my curl is more 2C.
I'd describe it as having a frizzy curl or wave. Straighter at the roots and ends, then curly in the mid-section. Oh yay!
As previously mentioned, I've tried SO many tools to style my hair, and I have always found they didn't really work with my curls, they just created a whole new curled look.
What I really like about the ghd thin wand hair curler is that it works with my already existing curls and texture.
It's lightweight and easy to use, so your arms don't get sore with all the wrapping (because we all know that feeling!).
I'm really impressed with the thin barrel as I find that's the key to creating a tighter, more defined and long holding curl.

I love that my curls felt soft and smooth once I wrapped my hair around the barrel.
I found the best way to finish the curls is to let the curls “set” or “cool” before brushing them out with your fingers.
So, I'll usually do my hair, let the curls set, do my makeup then brush out my curls and apply
Wella Professionals SP Luxe Oil Reconstructive Elixir 100ml to smooth and define each curl.
Now, the true curl tool test for me is how my curls look and feel the next day!
I honestly don't have time to restyle my hair every morning. So, can the ghd thin wand hair curler give me low maintenance curls? The answer is YES!
I slept with my curled hair in a loose plait overnight, and my curls were still perfect in the morning.
The only thing I had to do was quickly re-tong my roots (as mentioned previously, my roots tend to be straight now).

Nicole, another one of my Adore colleagues with fine curly hair, also tried the ghd thin wand.
Here's what she said:
"Finally a tool has arrived for us curly girls to embrace our natural texture! I'm actually obsessed with this new tool."
"I find my natural curls start to drop out on day 2 or 3, and this is where the thin wand enters the chat."
"It takes second to curl rough sections and redefine my existing curls. Every time I do this, someone from my team notices and asks what I’ve used on my hair."
Honestly, the proof is in the group chat selfie!

You can watch it above, but here are her thoughts on using the tool on her long, thick, wavy hair.
"The way the ghd thin wand styles my hair looks so similar to the natural hair texture I was born with!"
"I've had keratin treatments, so it's more smooth and straight now, but it's so fun to embrace that natural style. The result is very disco, plus I managed to wrap my very long hair around the barrel!"
Final Verdict…
GHD Thin Wand 14mm Hair Curling Wand is definitely a tool I'll be incorporating into my hair routine.
I think this wand is ideal for those who already have a natural curl structure and are looking to enhance and define their curls.
Also, for anyone wanting to channel Beyonce 2018 Coachella vibes…
