Amy's worked as a journalist, beauty editor and podcaster for several years, previously writing and talking about all things beauty at Mamamia and You Beauty. When she's not writing honest, no BS product reviews and taking selfies 'for work', you'll find Amy eating halloumi in a hair towel turban and... taking more selfies.

Throughout my 28 years on this planet, I've had a few relationships with what I thought were my 'signature scents'.
At 12, on a family holiday, I doused the hotel room pillows in Kylie Minogue's Darling. My younger brother wasn't stoked about it.
At 15, the guy I had a crush on asked our whole class who was wearing Britney Spears Fantasy. It was me, so naturally, I went to my locker and poured the rest of the bottle down my school dress.
Then came my 18th birthday, and on the nights I'd 'hit the club', enough spritzes of Juicy Couture to take down an entire dancefloor of innocent patrons.
I really thought each of these fragrances was the one at the time, but it wasn't until recently that I finally found my signature scent. And ever since I started wearing it a couple of months ago, people keep stopping me to tell me how good I smell.
What are you wearing, they ask? My answer: L'Artisan Parfumeur Un Air De Bretagne EDP 100ml

What Makes L'Artisan Parfumeur Un Air De Bretagne Special?

The description for this fragrance on the Adore Beauty website reads: "Be the breath of fresh air in the room."
Not to get too deep here, but that one sentence sums up exactly what L'Artisan Parfumeur Un Air De Bretagne EDP 100ml smells like, and the person I feel like when I wear it.
It's fresh and vibrant, but not too light or airy. Citrusy, but not sour. Powerful, but not overpowering. If you asked Un Air De Bretagne's friends to describe it, they'd say: fresh, aquatic, botanical, clean and brisk.
The scent is invigorating, like watching the sun set on a crisp evening. Or, creeping into your neighbour's backyard to take selfies against their jasmine bushes...

Created by L’Artisan Parfumeur, the people who were doing niche fragrances in 1976 before niche fragrances were a thing, this scent is deceptively simple. Here are the notes:
  • Head: Bergamot, lemon and lime.
  • Heart: Calone and neroli.
  • Base: Cypress, ambergris, cedar and seaweed.
The first thing you'll get a whiff of when you spritz this fragrance is a burst of an expensive botanical gin and tonic. Then, wait a minute for the fresh saltiness to cut through thanks to notes of calone and neroli (two notes that mimic an ocean breeze).
Base notes of ambergris and cypress sit close on the skin, which means the fragrance settles with a finish unique to you - this is what makes people stop to ask you about your perfume - but seaweed and cedar keep everything feeling fresh, green and not too serious.
A 100ml bottle of L'Artisan Parfumeur Un Air De Bretagne EDP 100ml costs $219, and will last a really long time because it's an EDP (eau de parfum), a more highly-concentrated fragrance that holds throughout the day without the need to reapply.
It's also really beautiful to look at, no?

There's no doubt it's definitely on the more luxe side when it comes to fragrances (although not as expensive as a lot of niche/boutique perfumes...)
But the best part about purchasing a fragrance like this one from Adore Beauty's The Scent Room, is that when you purchase a full-size perfume, you receive a free sample vial to try before you open it, so if it’s not love at first smell, you can send it back.
If you're into fresh, citrus, aquatic scents (or beverages) with charm and character, I guarantee you'll dig this fragrance.
Just don't tell too many people about it. Gotta keep the mystery alive, you know?
