As the proud owner of approximately 256 lip products, it takes a lot for one to impress me.
Oh, you've got a fruity scent and a doe-foot applicator?
That don't impress me much.
The only problem with hoarding lipsticks, lip glosses and balms (in my opinion), is it's easy to forget how good some are while you're off busy trying all the others.
Then, I saw
this stunning video from
@davis.atkin and it reminded me just how much I rate the cult Clarins lip oils.
To some, it might look like a lovely lip gloss, but the beauty icon is so much more.
How the Clarins lip oil brings together all the things I love about all my other favourite lip products in one chic little tube is beyond me.
It’s been a beauty editor secret for decades, but what makes this best-selling lip oil so damn good?
Keep scrolling for my Clarins lip oil review, which is essentially a short essay on why I'll never stop buying this very good lippie.
What Is the Clarins Lip Oil?

The Clarins lip oils have had an underground if you know, you know following for decades.
They're the Goldilocks of tinted lip products.
Not too thick or sticky. Not too thin or drying.
And with juuuust the right amount of pigment to deliver a 'your lips, but better' look that keeps lips nourished and coated for a couple of hours, minimum.
Because the Clarins lip comfort oil shades are sheer, they look slightly different on everyone's individual lip colour.
Side note, I'm obsessed with this lip oils try-on video from TikTok creator
@jawarshere.
Is Clarins lip oil good for lips?
The recently-reformulated Clarins lip oils are also:
Ultra nourishing with a glossy, high-shine finish.
Available in 8 shades that give a wash of sheer pigment that enhances your natural lip colour.
Formulated with 93% naturally-sourced ingredients like organic jojoba, hazelnut and sweetbriar rose oils.
Helpful in preventing chapping, dry flakes, and dehydrated lips, and protecting lips against environmental damage.
An excellent alternative to lipstick while lips are dry that can be worn alone, on top of lip liner or lipstick, or as a thick layer applied before bed.
Clarins Lip Oil Review.

I was a fan of the original Clarins lip oils, but let me tell you...
Everything about the updated product is even better (if that was even possible?!).
The old rectangular packaging had a lovely heritage feel to it, but the new sleek silver rounded tube? So chic.
A slick of the Clarins cherry lip oil shade (see selfie above) makes me feel pretty chic, too.
I also love how they've kept all the great parts of the original lip oil formula - non-sticky yet nourishing, super shiny finish, no weird taste - but made it even better for your lips.
Maybe I'm imagining it, but I feel like the Clarins lip oil shades are even glossier and more delightful than I remembered.
The shades aren't as deep or rich as they look in the tubes, so here's what a few of the different swatches look like on my lips.
*And yes, I wore the same work from home outfit for a few days in a row, don't @ me.

First up, my everyday no-makeup makeup tinted lip shade - Strawberry.
It's subtle, and looks exactly what I wish my lips looked like wearing just clear gloss.
A girl can dream.

This next one might surprise you - Plum.
The colour looks far deeper and purple in the packaging, but I love how this enhances my corpse-coloured natural lip shade.
Kind of looks like I've eaten a juicy plum, or been sipping a glass of merlot.

Here we have the shade Apricot.
This is another Clarins lip oil colour that I find looks different on the lips, compared to the bright orange packaging.
I'd wear this shade with a peach or coral cream blush - think beachside cocktails or a summer barbecue.

Finally, Raspberry is maybe the easiest way to get a pink lip look, without the maintenance of a pigmented gloss or lipstick.
It just feels fresh, ya know?
Honestly, my only criticism of the Clarins lip oils is it's really bloody hard to decide which colour(s) to get.
Best to nab a few different shades, just to be on the safe side.
If you've been seeing lip oils all over TikTok and Instagram but weren't sure if they're worth the hype, this is your sign to add one to cart.
You and your lips can thank me later.
