Despite all the buzzy new launches that populate the beauty industry, there will always be those cult, iconic products that stand the test of time.
Originally launched in 1985, Double Serum uses a two-in-one dual formula packed with plant extracts to target all signs of skin ageing.
Think fine lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and loss of firmness.
Like all great icons, this serum has undergone a handful of reformulations to keep up with advances in beauty technology.
But more than 30 years on, the juicy, golden skin serum is still loved by millions for its ability to change the skin.
If you don’t believe us, take it from Adore customer Michelle, who says that Double Serum is one of her "can’t live without products."
Us too, Michelle. Us too!
So, given its popularity, it made sense for Clarins to launch an eye serum version of their number one best-seller.

Clarins Double Serum Eye 20ml is an intensive anti-ageing treatment that uses a similar dual-formula to target the delicate skin around the eyes.
Obviously, our expectations for this new launch were high, so we put it to the test to find out if it lives up to the iconic Double Serum standard.

Do You Need An Eye Serum?
Before we get into the eye serum review, let's address the elephant in this article.
The question of whether anyone needs an eye cream or eye serum comes up a lot, and the answer is, no.
An eye cream or eye serum definitely isn’t a must-have in your routine. (Really, the only must-have skincare product is sunscreen!)
But if you want to target things like dullness, sagging, creasing and puffiness, they’re a pretty fantastic inclusion.
You can learn more about eye creams and how they work in this YouTube video below...
The reason eye products exist is because the skin around the area is much thinner, and therefore extra prone to lines, wrinkles, sagging and puffiness.
Aside from all the movement of the muscles around the eyes when we smile, frown, laugh and even blink, there's no hydrolipidic film on the under-eye skin, meaning the risk of water loss and dehydration is high.
When it comes to
eye creams versus eye serums, the bottom line is that they’re fundamentally different.
Eye creams are more nourishing, whereas serums are thinner in consistency, and often packed with actives to really affect change in the skin.
Hot tip: Eye serums are also great if you find creams congest your skin or contribute to milia (those tiny white bumps).
What Is Clarins Double Serum Eye?

Clarins Double Serum Eye 20ml is a lightweight, fluid-like treatment for the under eyes and surrounding area.
Like the original facial product, Double Serum Eye is made up of two formulas — one being oil-based and the other water-based — that combine together upon application.
Some Double Serum Eye fast facts:
It's designed to smooth the look of wrinkles, reduce puffiness and illuminate the skin.
Made from 96 per cent natural ingredients, and 13 potent plant extracts.
Lightweight fluid consistency absorbs quickly.
Contains organic wild chervil extract to strengthen the delicate skin, plus turmeric to preserve cellular communication and limit ageing.
There’s also caffeine extract, oat, organic kiwi and horse chestnut to firm, hydrate, de-puff and protect against pollution.
Can be used morning and night, underneath your moisturiser and alongside Double Serum for face (an iconic duo if there ever was one).

When it comes to comparing the formula to the original Double Serum, think of the pair as complimentary.
Both work on improving the five vital functions of the skin, including regeneration, oxygenation, nutrition, hydration and protection.
While Double Serum Eye is made specifically for the eye contour, the pair work in tandem to deliver a complexion that’s youthful, fresh, smooth and even.
My Clarins Double Serum Eye Review.

For context, I’m 27 and have just started noticing some lines creeping in.
I’m also prone to dehydration (big time) and puffiness, but my sensitive skin means I have to be careful with the products I use.
Also disclaimer, I’ve tested the facial Double Serum before, but not used it ongoing as part of my routine.
Now, onto my review.
I’ve been testing out the Double Serum Eye for three weeks now.
While I acknowledge you need a good few months of consistent use to gauge proper results, my skin has definitely improved slightly already.
The eye serum texture is definitely worth a mention: it’s light, thin and absorbs in mere seconds.
It's thinner than the original Double Serum consistency (as you can see in the photo below), but it still has a lovely moisturising feel and leaves the under eye feeling plump and soft.

As for the scent, it’s green, woody and ever so slightly herbaceous.
I didn't find it to be overpowering, though you might if you're sensitive to fragrance in skin care.
One of the things I love about both Clarins Double Serum products is the dual pump.
It expertly blends the two formulas, and dispenses the perfect amount of product to treat the entire eye area (including the brow bone).
I used it on clean, dry skin before my moisturiser, and the first thing I noticed was how it prevented under-eye creasing while wearing concealer.
Probably because it topped up hydration levels - nevertheless, my eye bags and I were impressed.
After a fortnight of use, my baby wrinkles looked much softer, and my entire eye area brighter.
I'm pretty excited for what the next few weeks of testing will bring.

Who Is Clarins Double Serum Eye Serum Best For?
Final verdict?
Double Serum Eye is perfect for anyone who wants one eye product to target all the different signs of ageing around the eyes.
It’s light, nourishing and works well to subtly brighten the look of dark circles. Bonus points too for the gentle, plant-packed formula that won’t cause any sensitivity.
And if you're already a fan of the original Double Serum, the two products together are a match made in healthy skin heaven.
